Asian Communication Research

Asian Communication Research (ACR) is an interdisciplinary and international journal that features cutting-edge research at the intersection of between the broadly conceived region of Asia and communication. As an official journal of the Korean Society for Journalism and Communication Studies(KSJCS), the premier academic association for communication scholars and journalism practitioners in Korea, the Journal publishes original research articles, essays, and book reviews that examine a broad range of issues related to Asian communication scholarship. It publishes three issues annually. ACR is the oldest all-in-English peer-reviewed journal in journalism and communication studies in Korea and is indexed in Korea Citation Index(KCI).

A.C.R Publication Board and Editorial Committee Policy

Chapter 1: General Provisions
  1. Article 1 [Name]

    Based on the Sections 3 and 4 of Article 4 of the Articles for Operational Policy of the Korean Society for Journalism and Communication Studies (“KSJCS”), the Publication Board and the Editorial Committee were formed for the publication of the KSJCS’s flagship English-language journal, Asian Communication Research (“ACR”).

  2. Article 2 [Definitions]

    The Publication Board is the governing body of ACR publication. The Editorial Committee conducts and manages day-to-day activities, such as but not limited to, budgeting, planning, deciding editorial issues, and any other related activities. Publication Board members are eligible to be Editorial Committee members.

  3. Article 3 [Purpose]

    The purpose of this policy is to comply with the operational principles of ACR and reach the ACR standards to be at par with the level of the Social Science Citation Index journals.

Chapter 2: Editorial Committee
  1. Article 4 [Composition of Editorial Committee]
    1. 1. The Editorial Committee is composed of up to forty members, including one chairperson who plays the major role of the editor-in-chief in publishing ACR issues.
    2. 2. The editor-in-chief is appointed by the President of KSJCS, and one’s term is set for a period of three years. The editor-in-chief can be reappointed consecutively.
    3. 3. The editor-in-chief and co-editors are scholars and media professionals who are conducting research activities in the field of journalism and communication studies in Korea and abroad. Term of the offices is three years and they can be reappointed.
    4. 4. The Editorial Committee may have several co-editors and editorial staff members including managing or associate managing editors, if necessary.
  2. Article 5 [Role of the Editorial Committee]

    The Editorial Committee is responsible for the following matters below:

    1. 1. Establishment and implementation of the publication plan for ACR.
    2. 2. Deliberation on the publication of submitted manuscripts.
    3. 3. Decision on other publications including book reviews and special topic discussions.
  3. Article 6 [Operating Budget of Editorial Committee]
    1. 1. Expenses necessary for the operation of the Editorial Committee shall be drawn from the budget of KSJCS.
    2. 2.1. When publication board members attend an editorial committee meeting and other meetings convened.
    3. 2.2. by the editor-in-chief, a certain travel fee may be paid directly by the KSJCS office.
      Travel and review expenses for Editorial Committee meetings:
      1. 2.2.1 Publication Board members living in Gyeonggi-do, Gangwondo, Incheon, and Chungcheong-do excluding Seoul are paid 50,000 Korean won if they participate in the Editorial Committee meeting.
      2. 2.2.2. Publication Board members living in Jeolla-do, Gyeongsang-do, and Jeju-do are paid 100,000 Korean won, if necessary.
      3. 2.2.3. Publication Board members currently overseas may be paid 100,000 Korean won or appropriately if they are invited to participate in a regular meeting.
      4. 2.2.4. Reviewers will be paid 20,000 Korean won for each review they conduct for the journal. If they review a resubmitted manuscript that has already been previously reviewed, 10,000 Korean won will be paid additionally.
      5. 2.2.5. Reviewers in foreign countries may apply for an appropriate negotiable expense with the ACR editorial office.
      6. 2.2.6. All expenses in Sec. 2.2 will be paid directly from the KSJCS office to the recipients if the editorial office submits appropriate receipts for travel and review reimbursement.
    4. 3. For each ACR issue, KSJCS pays 500,000 Korean won to the editor who is responsible for the publication of the specified issue. The payment is an honorarium for service for planning, editing, and proofreading the articles included in the issue, as well as writing the editorial.
    5. 4. For the reimbursement of other expenses incurred in the editorial process including book reviews, and roundtable discussions for specific issues, all expenditures must be reported to the KSJCS treasurer’s office after publication of each ACR issue. They are accompanied by receipts.
Chapter 3: Ethics Guidelines for Improper Research Activities
  1. Article 7: [Sanctions and follow-up measures for inappropriate conduct of research]
    1. 1. The following sanctions may be imposed on authors who have been found to have acted improperly in conducting their research published in ACR. If the article has already been published, it will be removed from the published article list.
    2. 2. The information about the article retraction will be posted on the website of KSJCS with the author’s name(s), article title, and the volume and issue numbers.
    3. 3. The author(s) will be prohibited from submitting manuscripts to ACR for three years.
    4. 4. Other types of misconduct are subject to the all applicable rules of KSJCS.
  2. Supplementary Provisions (2020.5.29.)

    This regulation will take effect on May 29, 2020, as resolved by the KSJCS regular board meeting of directors. Expenses for ACR publication will be applied retroactively to ACR Volume 16, 2nd Edition and thereafter.
