The International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity presents the 27th annual Q Conference on September 7-9, 2011 at the University of Birmingham, in Birmingham, England.
Call for proposals: ISSSS 2011 Conference
The International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity, ISSSS Conference 2011, will offer an exciting programme of invited speakers, focused workshops, and papers, presented in a variety of formats. While the topic of the papers will vary, the study of subjectivity and the use of Q Methodology provide a unifying element to the conference. The conference is a three-day event, comprising of workshops, plenary sessions, paper presentations, and keynote speeches.
We welcome submissions on all aspects of Q methodology and contributions inspired by the seminal work of Dr. William Stephenson. The conference programme will cover a range of disciplines and sectors and we invite presentations of recent or ongoing research using Q, or accounts of applying Q to aspects of teaching or professional practice.
In additional to presentations of research findings, we welcome submissions relating to (but not restricted to) the following themes:
- Q in your discipline such as health, education, nursing or political science;
- Q applied to a specific topic or location;
- the life and works of William Stephenson;
- creativity in Q sorting;
- use of Q in teaching, coaching and mentoring;
- commercial applications of Q;
- use of computer packages and web applications to conduct Q studies or open up
Q to new users;
- use of Q with visual or non-verbal stimuli;
- the relationship between operant factors and discourse;
- use of Q in developing survey tools; the future of Q;
- Q's relationship with other methods and techniques;
- use of Q in programme evaluation and policy analysis;
- judgemental rotation;
- dilemmas in statement sampling;
- and literature reviews.
Abstract Submission
A 200-300 word abstract of the proposed paper or poster will need to be submitted by May 2nd, 2011.TBA. All submissions will be handled online via the abstract submission page. Once you have submitted an abstract, you will receive an email with a record ID # and password. You can use this information to view and update
the abstract by going to the Abstract Login. Abstracts can be modified until the submission deadline - 11:59
PM on the 2nd of May 2011.
Submission Types
Paper - approximately 15-20 minute presentation to audience in a session along with a paper to hand out to those in attendance at the presentation.
Poster - an area will be setup for posters during the conference in an open, public area. A specific time of poster viewing will offer the ability of presenters to talk with conference attendees about their research.
Panel - for multiple presenters offering information on a topic. This type of presentation will include extended time for presentation compared to paper presentations. Proposals should include all names of those on the panel as the authors.
